Microgreens Mentorship & Business Support

Thinking of Growing Microgreens Commercially? We can offer practical, one-to-one support from any stage in your journey.

Learn from someone who's already been through the trial, error, building, rebuilding and growing.

When Laura and I started Fresh & Tasty, we didn't have a blueprint.

We started small and learned as we went. Since then, we've built four different farm setups from scratch, and I've spent years developing the growing systems, equipment and technology behind them, solving problems and working out how to produce microgreens reliably on a commercial scale.

Some ideas worked brilliantly.

Some definitely didn't.

Knowing the difference is surprisingly valuable.

Today, Fresh & Tasty is a working commercial microfarm. We supply chefs, shops, wholesalers and home customers, as well as selling successfully at farmers' markets.

I've learned an enormous amount along the way, and I'm now offering a limited amount of one-to-one mentoring to people who'd like to benefit from that experience while building or developing something of their own.

Not another microgreen course

There's plenty of information online about how to grow microgreens.

The difficult bit is often working out what applies to you.

What should you spend money on? What can you build yourself? How much space do you really need? Which varieties make commercial sense? How do you create an efficient workflow? When should you automate? How do you find customers – and what happens when you actually find them?

That's where mentoring is different.  There isn't a syllabus.  We start with you. Where you are now, what you're trying to build and the problems or decisions standing between the two.

8 hours built around you

We'll start with a free 30-minute consultation to talk about your plans, your current setup if you have one, and what you'd most like help with.

It also gives us both a chance to make sure I'm the right person to help before you spend anything.

If we decide I can add something useful, the mentoring package is:

8 hours — £360

We'll agree how to divide those hours so they're used where they'll make the biggest difference.

That could be growing and troubleshooting, grow-room design, equipment, lighting, irrigation, environmental control, technology, automation, workflow, production planning, harvesting, packaging, costing, pricing, scaling or selling.

Or something completely different that I haven't thought to list.

We can work remotely, at Fresh & Tasty, or I can come to your setup and work through things with you there.*

Growing is only half the story

We've built Fresh & Tasty around several very different types of customer.

We sell directly to home customers, work with chefs, retailers and wholesalers, and have years of experience selling face-to-face at farmers' markets.

Each works differently.

What makes a chef happy isn't necessarily what makes a retailer happy. Wholesale brings different margins and expectations again. And a farmers' market teaches you very quickly what people will actually hand over their own money for.

So our conversations don't have to stop at the grow-room door.

We can look at the whole journey from seed to sale.

A little extra expertise when it's useful

Fresh & Tasty has always been something Laura and I have built together.

My strengths are particularly in the growing, practical, technical and problem-solving side of the business.

Laura brings something different. Alongside her hands-on experience running the farm, she's a project manager and former business consultant and marketing executive.

If there's something within your mentoring where Laura's particular experience would be useful, we can bring her into that part of the conversation too.

And while the mentoring is centred around microgreens, we're happy to share what we've learned about edible flowers and small-scale farm crops where they're relevant to your plans.

Experience is often cheaper than trial and error

We've bought things we didn't need. We've built things and rebuilt them. We've changed growing systems, moved farms, tried varieties that didn't earn their keep and discovered that something which looks wonderfully efficient on paper can become remarkably inefficient when you repeat it hundreds of times.

I won't tell you there's one correct way to build a microgreen business.

There isn't.

What I can do is share what we've learned, explain what I'd do differently knowing what I know now, and help you make better-informed decisions about your setup.

Sometimes avoiding just one unnecessary purchase or wrong turn can be worth considerably more than the cost of the mentoring.

Then go and try it

After your eight hours, I don't immediately want to sell you another eight. Go away and use what we've discussed.

Once you've had some time to put things into practice, we'll have a free 30-minute follow-up to see how things are going and talk through any new questions.

If you don't need any more help, great. If you do, you'll receive a discount on another 8-hour block.
